Just after the sensational abduction of Quippo employees abduction by ULFA-Independent ended recently, the rebel group is once again hitting the headlines. This time the focus is once again back on the long drawn tussle between the centuries old tea industry of Assam and the outfit.

The ULFA-I on Thursday issued a notice to Amalgamated Plantations (erstwhile Tata Tea Limited) instructing the leading tea company to immediately shift it corporate and other important offices to Assam and also to only provide employment to local youths.

It may be mentioned that the enmity between ULFA and the Tata’s are not new. During the initial days of the outfit itself, top ULFA commanders had forced the company to construct a hospital  – Tata Referral Hospital in eastern Assam’s Chabua – for treatment of the poor and the needy free of cost.

Later, there were cases like the sensational abduction of top Tata executive Bolin Bordoloi by the outfit and arrest of senior Tata Tea executives by the police on allegations of facilitating the treatment of a couple of senior ULFA leaders including cultural secretary Pranati Deka.

On April 5, the banned outfit released the second of the two abducted Quippo employees, two days after the first staff was set free from captivity on Saturday, April 3 after three months.
