Robertjune Kharjahrin has been fielded against NPP leader and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for the Shillong seat
With electioneering gradually picking up in Meghalaya, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has once again exuded confidence that Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin will win the Shillong parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, party president Metbah Lyngdoh said that even though the party is yet to go for an open campaign, however, the fact that people from all across Shillong are responding positively provides them a sense of how well they would do in the Lok Sabha polls.
“We have not gone for an open campaign yet, but we will be starting it soon. But the candidate is getting wide support. Given the invitation from the people and positive responses we are receiving from all the nooks and corners of Shillong, we are confident that Robertjune Kharjahrin will sail through in the Lok Sabha polls,” said Lyngdoh.
When asked if UDP win the seat, whether they will be part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) for the development of the State or not, Lyngdoh said, “Let us cross the bridge first.”
Earlier, party leader, Paul Lyngdoh said that the party has started moving in the right direction.
The RDA is an alliance of the UDP and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP).
They decided to field former Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) President Robertjune Kharjahrin as the common candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat in December last year.
National People’s Party (NPP) named cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for the Shillong seat, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) has named Ricky A J Syngkon for the same. Meanwhile, Congress has cleared the name of Vincent H. Pala for the Shillong parliamentary seat ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls.
