Two of the three abducted Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) employees were rescued on Friday night in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles near the India-Myanmar border in Nagaland’s Mon district.
The rescued ONGC officials have been identified as Mohini Mohan Gogoi and Alakesh Saikia. The third abducted ONGC official Ritul Saikia is yet to be rescued.
Ritul Saikia, the third abducted employee, and Gogoi worked as junior engineer assistants at the ONGC site, while Alakesh Saikia as a junior technician. All three hails from Assam.
Security forces are conducting search operations in the area. One AK-47 rifle has also been seized from the site of operation.
The police had earlier alleged that United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) is behind the kidnapping.
Sivasagar district SP Amitava Sinha has stated that they have arrested two people who acted as the linkmen for the ULFA-I to carry out the abduction. Police have also arrested the owner of the motorcycle that was used in kidnapping along with the person who took the motorcycle from him.
Earlier yesterday, in multiple raids that continued throughout the day, the Assam police had arrested 14 persons from various locations in Sivasagar district in connection with the case.
According to preliminary investigation, these 4 people were working for ULFA-I as overground workers. They were involved in carrying out various activities for the banned outfit.
