Tripura: Tribal Class XI Student Found Hanging in Her Hostel Room

The deceased was a Class XI student of Bodhjung Girls Higher Secondary School and was residing at the state-run Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls' Hostel.
A tribal student was found hanging from the ceiling in her hostel room on Tuesday evening in Agartala, marking the second such suicide in a hostel in the city in less than two months.
The deceased was a Class XI student of Bodhjung Girls Higher Secondary School and was residing at the state-run Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls’ Hostel.
According to the hostel warden, the girl had attended school as usual and returned to the hostel, however, at around 5:30 PM some hostel inmates rushed to inform her about the incident. Upon reaching Room No. 8 with a staff member and security personnel, the warden discovered the girl hanging inside.
“There was no prior indication of any conflict or distress. She had attended school as usual today,” the warden stated.
A team from the Women Police Station arrived at the hostel and has launched an investigation into the unnatural death. While initial observations suggest suicide, authorities are probing all angles.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in last January when a 12-year-old tribal girl was found hanging in her hostel room at the State Sports School in Badharghat. At the time, the victim’s father accused the school of negligence and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
The recurring suicides of tribal students in hostels have raised concerns, prompting calls for a deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding these deaths.
