CPI-M leaders fear BJP would create a serious law and order situation in the poll-bound state ahead of voting on Feb 16

CPI-M National General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Jitendra Chowdhury, former MP and CPI-M State Secretary, Tripura, hit out at the BJP during a press conference in Tripura today.

Sitaram Yechury, CPI-M National General Secretary, speaking to the media, said that the people of Tripura want relief from an oppressive rule and want normal governance and solutions to their problems.

“Looking at the mood of the people, there seems to be a desperate urge to overcome the people’s dissatisfaction against this BJP misrule by big use of money and muscle power” Sitaram Yechury said.

Yechury also alleged that three days ahead of the polls, there could be a serious law and order problem created by the BJP.

Yechury informed that the CPIM delegation will go and meet the Chief electoral commission in Delhi today and urge for a free and fair elections.

“They should make sure that such gross misuse of administrative positions by the BJP, the central government, and the state government should immediately stop.” Sitaram Yechury said.

He also emphasised that the elections must be conducted under the strict provisions of the central forces that the election commission will set.

Meanwhile, Jitendra Chowdhury, former MP and CPI-M State Secretary of Tripura, speaking on political parties setting up their own agendas, said that this time the people have set their own agendas.

Chowdhury also stated that the BJP government should be defeated this time, adding that the people are taking advantage of the opportunity to exercise their patriotic citizenship.

He further lashed out at the BJP calling the party bankrupt.

“During the last 5 years in 2018 election they have made promises through their vision document-299 promises in total. They termed it as double engine govt. They said the double engine government will achieve what the left hand government achieved in last 25 years.”

Chowdhury also accused the BJP of making numerous false promises in its Sankalp Patra prior to making its new promises.”Nothing has been done to improve education or farmer welfare; everything is hollow.” Jitendra Chowdhury said.
