Assaults on doctors and medical staff are becoming increasingly frequent in Assam, with yet another incident reported just within a week after a previous attack that took place on September 17 in Hailakandi District Civil Hospital. A tense situation erupted at Pitambardev Goswami District Hospital in Majuli, following the death of a patient during treatment on September 22. Family members of the deceased blamed the doctors and medical staff for negligence, leading to a violent altercation.
The angry group not only assaulted the doctor, nurses, and hospital staff but also vandalised the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), damaging equipment and hospital property. As a result, the hospital staff, including doctors and nurses, have threatened to mass resign, expressing fear and frustration over their safety.
Police have intervened, arresting three individuals connected to the incident. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.
