Senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman said he still feels that Pradyot Debbarma is part of the Congress party

The Congress, it seems is working on a new strategy to regain its lost position in Tripura. In a significant development, Tripura Congress chairperson Sudip Roy Barman appealed TIPRA Motha Chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma to return back to the Congress fold and also merge his party with the Congress.

Offering the position of Tripura Congress President, Barman said that he feels Pradyot is still a part of the Congress.

Attending a party function on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti in Agartala, Sudip Roy Barman said, “Even now I consider him (Pradyot) to be a member of the Congress family. From this stage, I want to appeal that it is enough now, please merge your party with the Congress. Come and join us, lead us from the front and we will be by your side. We will give you the responsibility as a Tripura Congress president and want you to lead us, run the party with your leadership. We are ready to cooperate in terms of every aspect. The areas inhabited by the Adivasis are now lagging behind in different aspects.

Barman also referred about the close link between the Congress and Tripura’s Royal family. He said, “The Maharaja was made an MP by the Congress, Maharani also had the oppurtunity to become an MP, Paradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, was also made the president of the Tripura Congress, he was also made the Secretary by the All Indian Congress. Only the Congress had given the recognition to the (Royal) family. My love and respect which had prevailed before it is still intact today.

In 2019 Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma had quit the Congress after his differences with party’s general secretary and northeast in-charge Luizinho Faleiro. Deb Barman alleged that Luizinho had asked him to withdraw his case in the Supreme Court, where he had made a plea for the updating of the National Register of Citizens. Deb Barman alleged that Falerio had asked him to either drop the case or leave the party.
