Tripura: CPI-M accuses BJP of instigating attacks on Congress

Tripura CPI-M Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury has alleged that the attack on the Congress Party Office on February 26 took place under the instigation of two-state Ministers and a Union Minister of State.

Chowdhury raised the allegation while addressing media persons at the Agartala CPI-M headquarters.

Jitendra Chowdhury alleged that foreseeing inevitable defeat in the forthcoming elections, the BJP leadership is targeting CPI-M cadres everywhere and in anyone whoever is raising their voice against the BJP.

Dramatic scenes were witnessed in the streets of Banamalipur constituency in Tripura on February 26 after miscreants resorted to violence during a Congress meeting.

Unidentified miscreants wearing helmets and armed with sticks as well as other weapons vandalized the venue prompting Congress leaders and party workers to flee from the spot.

Congress workers including ex-minister Sudip Roy Barman reportedly sustained injuries in the incident. 

Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman also alleged that BJP workers, whom he referred to as goons, were behind the attack.

Later the Congress workers allegedly took charge and retaliated to the alleged attack by BJP workers.

Individuals believed to be Congress workers took things into their own hands and attacked BJP’s Banamalipur office.

As things took an ugly turn, cops and CRPF troopers rushed to the spot and resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the irate mob and prevent further violence.
