The incident took place in the Simlitola Narayanpara area of the Goalpara district yesterday.
The deceased have been identified as Sujan Malakar (34), Jit Karmakar (17) and Prasenjit Saha (age yet to be ascertained), and Gouranga Malakar (47), and Uday Sarkar (50).
As per inputs, a woman identified as Anjana Malakar died yesterday after suffering from a prolonged illness.
Due to the flooded surroundings, her mortal remains had to be taken to a crematorium approximately 250 meters away from their home by a country boat to perform her last rites.
While returning home after performing Anjana’s last rites, the boat carrying 20 villagers capsized due to strong currents and 5 relatives of Anjana drowned.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal today visited the bereaved family members and announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the kin of the victims.
CM Sarma said that he will extend help to the family in needed in the near future.
