NE Locations in CBDD List: NE states feature prominently with several destinations recognized for their potential in tourism development.
The Ministry of Tourism, under its Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD) initiative, a sub-scheme of the Swadesh Darshan scheme, has identified 42 destinations across India, categorized into four distinct themes. Among these, the Northeast states feature prominently with several destinations recognized for their potential in tourism development.
Assam’s Sivasagar stands at 5th place in the Ecotourism and Amrit Dharohar Sites category. Manipur’s Langthabal Konung is ranked 25th in the Culture & Heritage category, while Meghalaya is represented by Narting Village (26th) under Spiritual Tourism and Mawphlang Village (27th) in Culture & Heritage. Nagaland’s Doyang Reservoir (28th) is also categorized under Ecotourism and Amrit Dharohar Sites, and Impur Village (29th) is recognized for Spiritual Tourism.
Additionally, Sikkim’s Gnathang Village and Kabi have been included in the Vibrant Village Programme and Spiritual Tourism categories, ranked 33rd and 34th respectively.
To facilitate the development of these destinations, the Ministry has provided a template to State Governments and UT Administrations for formulating detailed action plans and submitting project proposals.
The proposals are then examined based on specific parameters and guidelines, appraised by the Ministry, and considered for sanctioning. A balanced approach is adopted, giving attention to both hard infrastructure and softer interventions during project evaluations.
This announcement was made by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
