A session court in Sindh province in Pakistan sentenced a Hindu college teacher to life in prison for blasphemy. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, according to reports.
Nautan Lal, a Government Degree College teacher was arrested in 2019 and has been held in custody as an under-trial prisoner since then.
During this time, his bail application was rejected twice.
A video was shared on social media on September 14, 2019, in which a student claimed that the owner of a local school had committed blasphemy.

A think tank, the Centre for Research and Security Studies reported that Pakistan has reported 1,415 cases of blasphemy since 1947.
From 1947 to 2021, a total of 18 women and 71 men were extrajudicially killed for blasphemy, according to the think tank report.
It is believed that the actual number of cases is believed to be higher as not all cases are reported.
The report also stated that Punjab was home to more than 70% of the accused of blasphemy cases.
