Manipur is staring at a crisis with the route called its lifeline getting crippled due to a bandh called by the Southern Angami Public Organisation. The SAPO, an organisation in Nagaland, has announced an indefinite bandh from today over Manipur’s alleged failure in withdrawing armed personnel and permanent structures from the disputed Kezoltsa area.

The Government of Manipur has asked the Government of Nagaland to take-up matters with the representatives of Southern Angami Public Organization or SAPO for immediate withdrawal of the ongoing indefinite bandh along the National Highway 39, which passes through Nagaland for the welfare of the general public and maintenance of peace and tranquility in the area.

The SAPO has claimed that the bandh is against the alleged failure of the Manipur government to withdraw its armed personnel and permanent structures from Kezoltsa.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, the Government of Manipur represented by Special Secretary Home, H. Gyan Prakash reiterated that the permanent structure and armed personnel of the State forces are deployed within the territorial jurisdiction of the Manipur State as opposed to the claim by the Southern Angami Public Organization. The letter further stated that the police structure is constructed within the territorial boundary of Manipur State as can be seen from the satellite map.

Further in the letter, the Government of Manipur also stated that National Highway-39 happens to be Manipur’s main lifeline, and appealed for peaceful coexistence and resolving territory and boundary issues amicably through negotiations between the concerned State Governments.

Meanwhile, Hundreds of Manipur-bound passengers as well as goods-laden trucks have been stranded in and around Phesama check post in Nagaland, as the total bandh called by the Southern Angami Public Organization along the National Highway 2 enters the 4th day today.

Moreover, SAPO has also extended the ongoing total bandh along the National Highway 2 in Nagaland’s Southern Angami jurisdiction to an indefinite Bandh.
