A group of unidentified miscreants attacked popular singer Zubeen Garg in the wee hours of Thursday. The incident took place near Ganeshguri at around 12.40 am while Zubeen was travelling to his residence from a studio at Zoo Road Tinali.
Garg was taken by a surprise when 6 individuals intercepted the singer’s car in the Ganeshguri area. The miscreants came out of their car and hurled abuses at the singer for no reasons. As per eyewitnesses, the accused with liquor bottles in hands even tried to assault the singer.
However, it was a narrow escape for the popular singer following the timely intervention by two of his personal security guards, preventing the situation from escalating further.
The singer has lodged an FIR with the Dispur police in the matter. As per the FIR, a vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 BY 0675 (Maurti CIAZ) had overtaken Zubeen’s vehicle at Ganesh Mandir near Ganeshguri from where six people were there.
The police have taken strong note of the issue and has begun probe into the matter. Talking to newspersons, Commissioner of Police Munna Prasad Gupta said that a case has been filed and those behind the incident will not be spared.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemning the incident said that the police would soon nab the culprits. He also urged everyone not to create controversies surrounding the singer.
“We condemn the incident. Commissioner of police has been given the responsibility in the case. The culprits will be arrested soon as the car number has been mentioned in the FIR,” Sarma said.
“There are many people to do politics and agitation. I want Zubeen Garg to preserve the art and culture of Assam. I neither want him for Congress nor BJP,” he further added.
Meanwhile, the car which the accused individuals had boarded is owned by Hirak Jyoti Rajbangshi, who is the main accused in the case and is absconding. It has been learnt that the singer had stopped the 6 individuals from assaulting daily wage labourers near the under construction flyover in Ganeshguri following which the situation turned ugly.
