Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Sikkim government has decided to close down all educational institutions till May 31, according to a notification issued by the Education Department on Sunday.
Out of 672 samples tested in the last 24 hours, 148 tested positive for COVID-19, taking the Himalayan state’s overall tally to 7,306.
East Sikkim registered the highest with 126 fresh cases, followed by 14 in South Sikkim and eight in West Sikkim.
There are 934 active cases in the state at present, while the death toll stands at 138.
A total of 6,073 patients have recovered from the disease so far.
