In a bold statement made at a public meeting in East Sikkim, KB Rai, President of Sikkim Republican Party, stated that if the Sikkimese Nepalis are to be labeled as foreigners, Sikkim should first become a country. He accused the government of wrongly targeting the Sikkimese Nepali community and making efforts to force them to flee from their soil.
Rai expressed his suspicion that the community was being wrongly targeted from all over India and accused the former SDF government and the present SKM government of not being sincere in protecting the existence of Sikkim. He further alleged that the current government was misleading the public by pretending to have solved the problem of foreigners’ stains on the Sikkimese Nepali community.
During his speech, Rai urged the Association of Old Settlers of Sikkim, the Supreme Court, and the Government of India not to label the Khas, Kirant, Gorkha, or Nepali communities living on the southern slopes of the Himalayas from Kashmir to the Brahmaputra as foreigners. He also emphasized that Sikkimese Nepalis are still alive and alert in the Sikkim Republican Party.
The working President of Hamro Sikkim Party, Neeknor Pradhan, and spokesperson of Hamro Sikkim Party, Tara Bhattarai, along with 30 others, joined the Sikkim Republican Party at the same occasion.
