Sikkim Emerging as an Educational Hub: CM Prem Singh Tamang

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang reaffirmed Sikkim’s emergence as an educational hub while addressing graduates at the 3rd Convocation Ceremony of Khangchendzonga State University (KSU) today at Chintan Bhawan. He highlighted the state government’s efforts to strengthen higher education and announced key initiatives aimed at benefiting students.
CM Tamang urged students to view convocation as the beginning of a new journey filled with opportunities and challenges.
He outlined the university’s progress since its establishment in 2018, praising its academic expansion and contributions to Sikkim’s intellectual growth. He also provided updates on the construction of KSU’s permanent world-class campus at Temi-Tarku, with the first phase nearing completion.
The Chief Minister lauded the university’s initiatives, including the launch of its peer-reviewed research journal Khangchendzonga and the establishment of the Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Studies to preserve traditional knowledge.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to making higher education more accessible, he announced several initiatives, including free education in government colleges, support for Sanskrit education, the APATAN Fellowship Programme, and the N.B. Bhandari Fellowship for higher studies abroad. He also confirmed that 80 MBBS seats have been reserved for Sikkimese students at Sikkim Manipal University, with 50 designated for economically weaker sections.
CM Tamang assured that the government will continue working towards making Sikkim a leading center for education, providing students with the best opportunities for academic and professional growth.
