Several parts of Guwahati are reeling under knee deep water after heavy downpour late last night. Few hours of rainfall left many prime locations in the city inundated throwing normal life out of gear.
Commuters had a tough time to reach their destinations as they waded through the flood water filled roads. In fact, a few had to shell out more from their pockets to get a rickshaw or an autorickshaw ride to reach their destination.
Some of the worst affected places are Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Rukminigaon.
A local said, “If there is rainfall will there be no floods in Anil Nagar? This problem will remain. Finding a solution to floods in the Anil Nagar is impossible. The rickshaw puller is charging Rs 100, I have no other way but to pay, because I have to take my child to the school.”
Another individual who is a resident in the Nabin Nagar said, “Many people have been marooned. If they are not rescued, then the situation will become precarious. There is scarcity of drinking water. There is probability of more rainfall and if the administration does not take any relief measure, the situation might deteriorate further.”
Another commuter said, “Nothing has changed so far. The problem has only escalated with every passing day. We were worried when it rained last since since my children have exams today. I had to go to office but was not able to. Many new drains have been constructed but nothing has yielded results.”
