Situation continued to be peaceful across Itanagar Capital Region and the state amid the 3-bandh called by certain individual groups against the APPSC question paper leak case. Today is the last day of the bandh.
Speaking to mediapersons, Itanagar DC Talo Potom said that if the situation continues to be peaceful, Section 144 would be lifted and the internet service in the area may also be resumed if people resume their normal lives, but if the situation does not improve, it might be extended even further. He said that the ban on mobile internet service was clamped till 6PM today.
He told the media that normal movement of people and vehicles have already been approved after discussion with the stakeholders at a district level review yesterday.
A total of 37 people including activist Sol Dodum, Tana Tamar Tara, Aam Admi Party worker, Taw Pail, Chairman of Pro Dam Movement, 4 social influencers – Nabam Sanjay, Yowa Bosco, Viral Rabha, Yowa Topu and 7 agitators – Kaku Yarda, Licha Talang, Jidam Riamuk, Gyamar Tayu, Prem Dada, Phassang Kechak and Dangi Pabin were arrested on May 9 and 10 and lodged at different locations to prevent any untoward incident.
The police conducted Flag March yesterday in Itanagar to let people know that it was safe to step out of their homes and carry on with their businesses and office work.
The bandh has been called by certain individual groups on social media platforms. Although several local organizations extended support to the bandh, the Arunachal district administration had declared the bandh call ‘illegal’.
