Rising water levels of the Siang river has led to the inundation of as many as 7 villages further downstream in Assam’s Jonai which falls under Dhemaji district.

The gushing water forced its way through an already breached embankment at Berachapori at Jonai in Dhemaji district. There was no threat to life as villagers were already evacuated before hand.

As many as 50 households have been affected by the inundation. Villagers, meanwhile, have been shifted to relief camps.

The water levels of Siang witnessed a steady rise during the day but things were under control till this incident was reported.

Meanwhile, alert has also been sounded in as many as four Assam districts including Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Tinsukia.

NDRF teams in Assam are also on alert not only to avert any disaster in the state but also to assist neighboring Arunachal Pradesh.

Ferry services have also been suspended between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji for an indefinite period.
