Editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami and his wife were attacked by two persons suspected to be Congress workers, while on their way home from the Republic’s studios in Mumbai on Wednesday night.

Goswami filed a written complaint with the police soon after the incident following which an FIR was lodged at NM Joshi Marg police station.

The alleged attack took place a day after an FIR was registered against the senior journalist by the Congress for allegedly making remarks against Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi during his TV show.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, the New Broadcasters federation has strongly condemned, expressing its concerns and shock on the recent attempt to attack Arnab Goswami.

Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also condemned the attack on Arnab Goswami. Sarma took to social media to express his solidarity with the veteran journalist and condemn the incident calling it an attack on freedom of expression.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also condemned the attack on the journalist. Sangma in his Twitter handle mentioned that it was an attack on freedom of press.
