India is all set to commence the “world’s largest vaccination drive”, starting from January 16. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the mega vaccination program on Saturday morning through video conferencing.
The rollout of the mega vaccination drive will cover the entire length and breadth of the country. Nearly 3 crore healthcare and frontline workers will be inoculated during the initial phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive.
Preparations are in full swing in the Northeast for the mega vaccination exercise tomorrow.
In Assam, the vaccination drive will begin at 65 centres in 33 districts, informed Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday. The vaccination program will start at 10:30 AM across all centres including Assam Medical College (AMC) and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
A total of 2.09 lakh people will be vaccinated, of which one lakh 90 thousand Covid warriors will receive the vaccination in the first phase.
The Health Minister also said that it will take 8 weeks to complete the first phase of vaccination.
Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek also informed that the State is well-prepared for the COVID-19 vaccination starting tomorrow. The Health Minister said that in the first Phase 16,000 health-workers will be vaccinated and it will be voluntary.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will flag off the vaccination drive which will be held across ten centres.
On the other hand, 6,000 health workers will be vaccinated in Sikkim in the first phase tomorrow. The state has received 12,500 doses of the Covishield vaccine.
A total of 10,367 state health workers, 148 central health workers and 5,527 frontline workers have registered for the program. The drive will be launched from STNM Hospital in Gangtok, District Hospital along with other district hospitals.
With 56,500 doses of the Covidshield vaccine, Tripura is all set to start the COVID-19 vaccination tomorrow at a total of 15 immunization centers.
In the first phase around 45,420 health care workers would be vaccinated followed by the frontline workers in the second phase.
On the other hand, Manipur is all set to begin the vaccination drive tomorrow across 10 centres. 8,476 frontline will be inoculated during the first phase.
Altogether 37,771 health workers from both government and private hospitals will receive the vaccine.
The central government has developed Covid Vaccine Intelligence Network or Co-WIN application to monitor and track the listed beneficiaries for vaccination on a real-time basis.
Centre has also established a 24×7 helpline number — 1075 — to address the queries related to COVID-19 vaccine drive.
