The sneakers, valued Rs 8,34,100 (approximately $10,000), are a testament to the intersection of high fashion and philanthropy

A pair of extremely rare Gold Nike Air Jordan 3 sneakers, originally designed for iconic filmmaker Spike Lee to wear at the 2019 Oscars, has been discovered in a donation bin at a homeless shelter in Portland, Oregon, USA.
According to the auction house’s website, the rare gold sneakers were found at the bottom of a donation slot at the Portland Rescue Mission warehouse earlier this year.
The sneakers, valued Rs 8,34,100 (approximately $10,000), are a testament to the intersection of high fashion and philanthropy.
Rather than keeping the extra money for themselves, the Portland Rescue Mission’s Burnside Shelter chose to use Sotheby’s to auction off the shoes. 100% of the profits from this admirable gesture will go toward supporting the underprivileged. The sneakers are expected to fetch up to $20,000 (Rs 16,67,013) with bids already rolling in, making them a real Cinderella story for the shelter.
The mystery of how these priceless shoes ended up in a donation bin remains unsolved. But one thing’s for sure: this serendipitous discovery has brought a ray of hope and financial support to those who need it most.
The shiny shoes are being sold by the Sotheby’s auction house on Monday.
It is described by Sotheby’s as premium leather adorned with dazzling metallic gold masking over the tongue, Swoosh, and elephant print, contrasted with black, white, and icy blue accents topped with a red liner.
The heel has an enormous Jumpman symbol and custom logos depicting Spike’s production firm, A Mule Filmworks, and 40 Acres. This pair was not released to the public.
