After a wait of 9 long months, the Rajiv Gandhi University on Thursday got a full time Vice Chancellor with the appointment of Professor Saket Kushwaha of Benaras Hindu University appointed to the post.
The Union HRD Ministry in an order issued on Monday appointed Kushwaha as the VC of the states lone Central university for a period of five years.
The Vice Chancellor’s chair had been remaining vacant since former Vice Chancellor Prof Tamo Mibang’s retirement.
The students of the varsity along with other students bodies of the state led by All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union had been demanding the state government to pursue the Centre for appointment of a regular VC for the institute.
The student body therefore has welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for taking prompt action in apprising the Union HRD ministry of the matter.
The AAPSU said, “The appointment of the new VC, who is an experienced and brilliant academician, would usher in a new era of academic excellence in the lone institute of higher education of the state”.
Meanwhile, students and other members of the University Students’ Union expressed happiness over the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor.
