Pushing for Peace in Manipur: Second Round of Meeting Between Centre and State MLAs Soon

The first such meeting with MLAs representing the Meitei, Kuki-Zo and Naga communities was held in New Delhi on October 15

The Centre is considering holding another round of meeting with MLAs from Manipur representing different communities. Sources said the meeting could even be held in Guwahati but a date has not been finalised yet.
The first such meeting with MLAs representing the Meitei, Kuki-Zo and Naga communities was held in New Delhi on October 15.
During the last Delhi meeting, the Kuki-Zo MLAs first met officials of the union home ministry separately before joining the rest. The MHA on that occasion released a statement saying the meeting with the MLAs appealed to all communities and groups in Manipur to abjure violence.
The decision to bank on the MLAs appears to have been taken because of the perception that the civil society organisations in Manipur are divided on ethnic lines and even differ in approach within themselves.
The temporary lull in Manipur has been shattered with the firing incidents in Kotruk in the past 72 hours and the discovery of a bomb outside a Women’s college in Imphal. In view of this, a serious effort at trying to bring peace through dialogue has become very important.
