Are vehicles meant for public transportation fulfilling the disability compliance in Nagaland? To ascertain this aspect, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Diethono Nakhro today inspected public transport vehicles at the Inter State Bus Terminal in Kohima.

But, the Nagaland Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, after her inspection expressed disappointment on the state of affairs.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Diethono Nakhro said,”Obviously we are not happy at all. We are not satisfied because nothing has been done as per the Accessibility Norms. So justy the fact that I cannot even get into the building, there is no ramp. I could not get inside the building, so that obviously shows that none of the accessibility norms have been followed. We are not happy.”

However, Nakhro assured,”We will definitely follow it up and keep on checking to see that all these things are done properly at the earliest, because this come under the Accessible India campaign.”

The Nagaland Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities also informed that the concerned government departments have also assured to fix things at the earliest.

In this regard, Nakhro said,”I am glad that the officials from the department from the NSD, from the Secretary’s office, the Transport Commissioner himself, they were all here today so it’s good that we were able to check out some of the facilities that are still missing and they have also promised that they will work together with us to make sure that all these things are done on priority.”

Further, Nakhro said a report will be given to the State government with a time frame with regard to transport which was inspected today to ensure that they start the work at the certain time.
“So, a time frame has to be there where the work is started, where various things are done and implementation is started. So definitely we will be doing that,” added Nakhro.
