Already facing the heat in the wake of fuel price hike, the people of Assam will be required to shell out more as the Assam Assembly on Thursday passed the Electricity Amendment Duty Bill 2018.

People of Assam will have to cough up more for their electricity bills now with the Assam government replacing the electricity duty of 20 paise per unit with 5% overall energy charge.

The assembly went for the electricity bill increase for the sake of the electricity employees’ pensions.

The bill was tabled in the assembly by finance minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. The added amount is to be added to the pension plan of the APDCL employees.
