Meghalaya: PHED mulls for implementing smart water meters

Shillong Minister in-charge of Public Health Engineering, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, has categorically stated that the department is thinking of implementing smart water metres to instil value in water in Shillong.

Speaking to the Media Renikton said the department might use smart water metres and people will have to pay if they use excess water. However, the minister added the idea is still under discussion as they have to fix each and every household.

Stating that it will be for use in urban areas, he said the department will give fixed hours of water to every household, but anyone who wants extra water will be chargeable.
