Chief Minister Pawan Chamling received the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Future Policy Gold Award for Sikkim’s achievement in becoming the first totally organic state.
The Himalayan state of Sikkim has been conferred with the prestigious World Future Policy award for promoting agro-ecology through policies and laws making it the world’s first ‘100 per cent organic agriculture state’.
Sikkim, the first in the world got the Future Policy Award 2018 by beating 51 nominated policies from 25 countries.
The award is co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Future Council (WFC) and IFOAM Organics International.
The award was announced simultaneously at Hamburg and Rome.
