Lovlina Borgohain is a win away from assuring herself a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024
Ace Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain will be fighting for another Olympic medal (she won a bronze in Tokyo Olympics 2020) tomorrow when she takes on China’s Li Qian, in the quarter finals of Paris Olympics.
Lovlina who hails from Assam, comfortably advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s 75kg boxing event after beating Sunniva Hofstad of Norway in the match held on July 31.
Lovlina, seeded eighth in the Paris Olympics, has her task cut out as she takes on Qian who had defeated her in the finals of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games held last year.
Lovlina-Qian’s match will start at 15:02 IST (Indian Standard Time) at the North Paris Arena.
Who is Li Qian?
Li Qian, a two-time Olympic medallist, won the Asian Games final in Hangzhou. A seasoned and highly decorated boxer, Li Qian secured her spot in the quarterfinals in by defeating Hergie Bacyadan with a resounding 5-0 victory in her round of 16 match on July 31st.
Qian is a two-time Olympic medallist, having won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and bronze at the Rio 2016 Games. Her extensive experience and proven track record make her a formidable opponent.
Lovlina Borgohain and Li Qian are former world champions, and this quarterfinal bout is set to be a thrilling encounter. The stakes are high as both boxers are just one win away from securing a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. For Lovlina, this match is not just about advancing to the next round but also about continuing her momentum from Tokyo, where she won a bronze medal.
