It is the last day for filing claims and objections for the NRC updation process.
While the time to file claims and objections officially ends at December 31st midnight, Sewa Kendras are likely to function till 5 pm.
Significantly, of the total 40 lakh people left out of the draft NRC, around 30 lakh have filed their claims. On the other hand, a mere 600 objections have been filed so far.
The final figure will be out only by tomorrow following which NRC state coordinator is expected to submit a report to the Supreme Court within a week.
The next date of hearing on the matter will be out only after the submission of report by Hajela.
As per the deadline set by the Supreme Court, the process of claims and objections will come to an end today. Out of the 3 crore and 29 lakh people who applied for the NRC updation process, about 2 crore and 90 lakh people were included in the draft NRC list.
