The Congress will do all it takes to serve the interest of the people of the state, the veteran Tripura politician said

Exuding confidence about a positive show in the upcoming polls, Tripura Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman said today that serving the people’s interest is the topmost priority for the Congress and that the party will do all that is needed to ensure that.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live after filling his papers, Barman said that it is the duty of his party to assure the people that a new dawn is waiting for them. The Congress leader said, “The mood of the people is very positive, they are waiting to exercise their franchise and waiting for democracy to prevail in the state of Tripura which has stolen away for the last 5 years. It is our duty to assure the people that a new dawn is waiting for them.”
When asked why the Congress did not get a larger share in the seat-sharing pact with the Left Front, Sudip Roy Barman said that for the Congress, the interests of the people matter the most.
“Someone or the other has to sacrifice. We thought that for us our party’s interest does not take the first position, the interest of the common people takes the first position is the theory and motto of our party. So for the greater interest of the people of the state, we took a back step,” said Sudip Roy Barman, the veteran Tripura politician who had won four times on a Congress ticket and once on a BJP ticket in 2018.
Replying to a query on whether TIPRA Motha will be a factor in the ensuing elections, Sudip Roy Barman said, “All political parties are factors, obviously TIPRA Motha is not exceptional.”
Reiterating that democracy should prevail, Roy Barman said, “the right of the people as has been assured in the Constitution of India should very well be ensured for the people. Whatever needs to be done to restore democracy we will do.”
Asked who would the Congress align with if needed after the polls, he said, “Nobody has seen tomorrow, I am dealing with the present.”
