The funeral of the late music maestro Neil Nongkynrih is set to take place in Shillong today. As per sources, the funeral services are set to take place at about 1 pm in the afternoon.

Shillong Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is likely to attend the funeral service along with several eminent personalities from Shillong.

The mortal remains of Nongkynrih reached his residence in the wee hours of yesterday morning. Yesterday, family, relatives, and well-wishers poured in large numbers throughout the day into the residence to pay their last respects to the departed music maestro.

Nongkynrih passed away at the Reliance Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The sudden demise of Nongkynrih has left Shillongites and people from across the region in a state of shock. Tributes poured in from all sides, paying final respects to the departed music maestro.

In 2010, Nongkynrih led his choir to win India’s Got Talent, catapulting the little Shillong unit to national and international stardom. In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.
