NCHAC polls: Voting underway

Fate of 87 candidates in 22 constituencies to be decided today.

Voting for 22 of the 28 constituencies for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council election in Assam’s Dima Hasao district is underway.

The voting began at 8 AM on Monday.

Tight security arrangements have been made in the polling stations.

The BJP have already won in 6 constituencies’ including Maibang East, Maibang West, Hajadisa, Harangajao, Gunjung and Hamri.

Among the 87 candidates, there are 22 from BJP, another 24 from Congress, 11 from TMC, 5 from AAP and 27 candidates are contesting the elections as independents.

A total of 1,41,124 people are expected to cast their votes. Of this, 70,485 are male voters and 70,639 are female voters.

101 candidates had filed their candidature while 8 had withdrawn their nomination.

Exempting 49 polling stations from six constituencies, out of 280 polling stations, 22 are marked very sensitive and 92 sensitive.

The counting of the votes will be held on January 12.
