In yet another push from the Centre to resolve the Naga political issue, Government of India’s representative for the Naga talks, AK Mishra arrived in Dimapur today and he is expected to resume the Naga talks with the NSCN-IM leaders tomorrow at the Police complex, Chumoukedima.

Tomorrow, the meeting will be attended by NSCN supremo Th Muivah, RH Raising, Gen. Rtd VS Atem and some other members of the NSCN-IM’s collective leadership. Th Muivah has already reached the Police complex at Chumoukedima today for the talks, sources told Northeast Live. A delegation of NNPGs would also be part of the meeting though the NNPGs have maintained that they have nothing more to discuss.

Talks would resume tomorrow after a gap of almost five months. Last time the talks were held in October 2022 when Th Muivah had flown in to New Delhi in a chartered flight for the talks. The bone of contention between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM has been the NSCN-IM’s demand for a separate flag and a constitution. With both the sides refusing to budge from their respective stand regarding the separate flag and constitution, a respectable solution to the Naga political issue has remained elusive for several years.

The Government of India had earlier said that the Nagas can hoist the separate flag in cultural and social events but the NSCN-IM had refused to accept it.

Interlocutor Mishra will also meet the Gaon Bura Federation this evening and is also likely to meet other civil society organisations of Nagaland.
The Naga Hoho too has sought an appointment with interlocutor Mishra. The Naga Hoho leadership is already camping at Chumoukedima, sources told Northeast Live.
