Mizoram Cyclist Vanlallawmzuala Varte Pedals For 286 Days Pan-India To Promote Clean Air

Mizoram’s Vanlallawmzuala Varte cycled 286 days, covered 17,043.1 kilometres across 28 states and 5 Union Territories, to create awareness about clean air.

Starting his journey on January 25, 2024, from Aizawl, Varte cycled an average of 83.54 kilometres per day for his mission – promoting clean air and sustainable living practices.

Varte’s journey concluded on October 31, 2024, when he re-entered Mizoram through Vairengte and was accorded a grand welcome on November 5. People lined up along the streets of Aizawl and cheered Varte as he cycled in.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Varte spoked about the challenges he faced but said that the high point of his journey across India was the love and support he got from people across states.

His tour has left an indelible mark on communities across India, inspiring others to contribute to cleaner, healthier air for all.

Varte expressed gratitude to the Pollution Control Board officials, government employees, and missionaries who supported his cause across various states.

MiCA president Franklin Lalrinngheta lauded Varte’s dedication, emphasizing the lasting impact of his theme, ‘Ride to Clean Air,’ which resonated with countless individuals throughout the country.
