In a major flare up in the border issue, miscreants from Mizoram on Saturday allegedly hurled a explosive towards Assam even as ADGP Harmeet Singh and Cachar DC Keerti Jalli were touring the area in Assam’s Cachar district.
According to sources, the incident took place after the high-level team from Assam confronted a group of intruders from the Mizoram side.
It may be mentioned that this location had witnessed violence last year as well, when bombs were hurled from Mizoram and two lower primary schools on the Assam side were damaged.
The latest development comes just a day after chief secretaries of Assam and Mizoram were engaged in high-level talks in New Delhi.
Sources have also informed that Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has taken up the matter with his Mizoram counterpart SBK Singh, and senior officials of the CRPF are probing the matter. ADGP Harmeet Singh is also camping in the area and constantly monitoring the situation.
Officials associated with the development have claimed that the blast could be an intimidatory tactic by intruders from Mizoram side, as they have intruded 6 km inside Assam territory in the past few days.
Some sources have also claimed that a Mizo IRB battalion has also intruded inside Assam and the battalion is accused of actively assisting the intruders from Mizoram.
