With an aim of taking necessary measures against children falling into the web of militancy, Meghalaya’s Social Welfare Department is mulling to conduct an in-depth research and study to find out the reasons behind youth opting for militancy in order to work out a solution.

This comes following the arrest of a juvenile “area commander” of the proscribed HNLC outfit in connection with the Police Bazar blast on Sunday.

Informing that a study will be carried out, Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla said that it is pertinent to know what makes some youths take such steps that bring shame to society.

He added that the investigation into the incident of the blast at the Police Bazar was underway and would reveal everything.

The Social Welfare minister said that the findings of the police would help the government to understand the problem and take measures against children falling into the web of militancy. He felt there must be some reasons behind some joining militancy.

Shylla said that it is the duty of his department to ensure that the youth do not fall prey to such traps.
