Residents of New Delhi will be able to savour the feel of the culture of Meghalaya. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated the ‘Meghalayan Age – The Store’ in New Delhi on Thursday. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was also present during the inauguration.

The store located at Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhawan would be selling curated items and artifacts of Meghalaya- ranging from Larnai pottery to Ryndia silk. Additionally, the store will also market indigenous agri-products of Meghalaya such as Lakadong Turmeric, Wild Forest Honey and Sohiong Jam. It will showcase the indigenous culture of Meghalaya while highlighting various facets of its various communities and tribes.

Speaking on the occasion Union Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed the opening of the store in the national capital and it will familiarise people of India’s mainland with the culture and facets of Meghalaya.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that although Meghalaya is home to some of the best artisans and farmers in the country unfortunately they have not been able to get the real worth of their efforts and ingenuity. ”The Store will be a platform for the people of Meghalaya to showcase their products and talent at the Nation’s capital, to a niche consumer segment willing to pay a premium price,” he said.

The inauguration of the store also saw a colourful cultural programme depicting the culture of the state.
