Shillong is set to witness a major boost in its tourism and urban landscape with the announcement of a four-star hotel at Orkid Polo. The hotel is expected to strengthen Meghalaya’s tourism industry, which already boasts of popular properties such as Courtyard by Marriott, Pinewood Hotel, and Vivanta by Taj in Shillong.
Chief Minister Conrad K. The redesign incorporates traditional elements such as Sohra stones, sustainable bamboo, and thatch roofing. A unique addition is a flower bed crafted from repurposed soil sourced from Marten, showcasing the state’s focus on sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
During the inauguration, Sangma highlighted that the beautification projects aim to enhance Shillong’s visual appeal while preserving its cultural identity. “These initiatives are part of our broader vision to transform Shillong into a world-class tourist destination,” the Chief Minister stated.
Accompanied by Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and other officials, Sangma inspected ongoing urban renewal projects, including newly painted footpaths at IGP Junction and further beautification efforts leading to the Main Secretariat.
The development of the four-star hotel at Orkid Polo is a key component of this multi-faceted strategy, which also includes enhancing public spaces and promoting sustainable urban growth.
