Meghalaya police has recovered huge amount of explosives hidden in Ri-Bhoi district near Umling on Sunday.
According to Assistant Inspector General of Police, GK Iangrai, the recovery was made during a joint operation conducted by West Garo Hills Police along with Ri-Bhoi Police in Umdu village on Umling-Patharkhmah Road under Nongpoh Police station.
The items recovered during the operation include 2.875 kg gelatine sticks, Class-2 explosives, 24 non-electric detonators and approximately 9 metre safety fuse.

AIGP Iangrai informed that the recovery was part of an ongoing investigation in which two persons were arrested in Tura on July 23.
In fact, the duo was planning to form a new militant outfit and kidnap an unknown person from Tura-Dalu Road. However, with prompt action taken by West Garo Hills Police, the kidnapping attempt was foiled.
It was during the investigation that the arrested persons revealed that they kept some explosives hidden in Ri-Bhoi District near Umling for an IED blast somewhere in Garo Hills.
