Meghalaya: NPP Leader Rakkam Sangma On Ultimatum Issued by KSP to State Govt Over Worshipping At a Cave

The KSP threatened to disrupt road connectivity between Assam and Meghalaya if the ban on Hindu devotees worshipping at a cave isn’t lifted.
National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Meghalaya Cabinet Minister, Rakkam A. Sangma, condemned the ultimatum issued by the Kutumba Suraksha Parishad (KSP) to the state government over Hindu devotees worshipping at a cave in Mawsynram.
The KSP threatened to disrupt road connectivity between Assam and Meghalaya if the ban on Hindu devotees worshipping at a cave in Mawsynram isn’t lifted within 10 days.
Sangma criticized the KSP’s approach, stressing that religious groups should promote peace and harmony, not division. He emphasized the need to respect local sentiments to maintain cultural balance in the region.
The minister also reaffirmed Meghalaya’s commitment to protecting minority communities, citing a recent silent protest in Shillong in support of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Sangma reiterated the state’s dedication to upholding social harmony.
Sangma stated, “We don’t expect such kind of statement to any, group or state. This is not acceptable and this I think doesn’t sound good. They are a religious group and that means when we talk about religion we worship God.”
He further added, “We worship God for the peace and harmony of the state. So I think as a religious group it is not correct to send that message. I don’t know the real issue but this is a local sentiment. I think they should respect when the reason is to respect each other. So that doesn’t mean that I say that worshipping any God God says it’s omnipresent, anywhere there is a God. The presence of God begins from your home. You can worship anywhere. So it doesn’t matter if you worship in the cave you will get more blessings.”
