In a major crackdown, the Meghalaya police has recovered a cache of arms the East Garo Hills district.
The recoveries were made in the last few days in different locations such as Rongbokgre and Dorengkigre in the district.
One 7.62 machine gun, one 7.62 SLR assault rifle, one double-barrel gun, eight wireless sets, thirteen batteries, five improvised explosive devices in plastic containers, six batteries for IEDs and five circuits for IEDs were recovered.
According to top sources the recovered 7.62 machine gun was used by Sohan D Shira, the commander in chief of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), who was killed in an encounter recently.
