Frequent meetings being held to find a solution. The Harijan Panchayat Committee would be invited in the next meeting, Deputy CM Dhar said

The Meghalaya Government is keen on resolving the long pending Harijan Colony relocation issue before the end of this year. Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Wednesday that he and his counterpart Prestone Tynsong are holding frequent meetings to discuss the outstanding issues so that a final solution to the issue can be found.

“Give us some time. We should be able to resolve the issue before the end of this year. In the next meeting, representatives of the Harijan Panchayat Committee would be invited. They have sought few modifications in the relocation plan. They are minor modifications. We should be able to address them,” Dy CM Dhar said.

Yesterday, the Meghalaya High Court, hearing the matter of the proposed relocation of the 342 families of Harijan colony from Them Ïewmawlong said that the issue has dragged on for ‘far too long’. However, the court said that given the fact that the state and the stakeholders are trying to negotiate and amicably resolve the issue, the court’s interference is unwarranted.
