The Meghalaya government has referred the proposal of the Khasi Students Union for an NRC like exercise in the state to the political department to study the need of such a mega exercise.

Talking to Northeast Live, Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that since the issue is quite sensitive the government does not assure that such a similar exercise will be carried out in the state.

The same was also conveyed to the students’ body. The KSU on Wednesday had submitted a memorandum to the deputy chief minister demanding to implement NRC to combat influx effectively and identify the genuine citizens.
