The medicine was supposed to be given to a patient in Outpatient Department (OPD) at Civil Hospital Nongpoh

People in Meghalaya are extremely worried due to the frequent
finding of strange objects inside medicines purchased from local pharmacies in the state posing a grave threat to patients.

The Khasi Students Union Nongpoh Circle today alleged that dangerous glass fragments were found inside a bottle containing a syrup formulation prescribed to a patient at the Civil Hospital Nongpoh.

The glass fragments were found inside Akklogal-P (Liquid), a medication used primarily to treat acute painful inflammatory conditions, particularly in pediatric cases.

The medicine was supposed to be given to a patient in Outpatient Department (OPD) at the hospital, said the student body.

This is the second such cases reported from the state in just 15 days.
Earlier on September 12, a woman in East Khasi Hills district claimed that she found nails inside capsules prescribed to her 12-year old daughter who is suffering from toothache.

The woman took her daughter to the Pomlum PHC where the doctors presribed Amoxicilin capsules for treating the ailment. However, when the woman was about to administer the medicine to her child, she found the nails inside 2 of the capsules. The woman later raised the matter with the PHC officials and filed a complaint.

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh constituted a medical team headed by senior specialists and an inspector of drugs to probe the matter.
