Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has demanded centres for CUET exam within the state and not in Guwahati or any other place outside the state as this causes a lot of inconvenience to the candidates.
Chief Minister Sangma has sought the intervention of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and National Testing Agency (NTA) in this regard.
Taking to X, Conrad K Sangma wrote, “Requested @EduMinOfIndia & @NTA_Exams to intervene in allotting #CUET examination centres within Meghalaya for our students.”
“Many students are being assigned Guwahati centres, causing inconvenience. Hopeful that the issue will be resolved”, he added.
Earlier, CM Sangma had requested the Government of India to consider to set up CUET centres in all 12 (twelve) districts of Meghalaya in the institutions which possess adequate infrastructure and testing facilities for CUET examination.
For immediate attention of the Union government, the Meghalaya government suggested that the CUET centres be set up at Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin and Williamnagar, which would cover the other adjoining districts.
However, last year, Centre has exempted students of Meghalaya from the CUET examination to facilitate admission into colleges for undergraduate studies.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has thanked Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for exempting undergraduate students of Meghalaya seeking admission in colleges affiliated with North Eastern Hill University, a central varsity.
“Happy to inform our students that admissions to affiliated colleges to Central University’s in Meghalaya have been exempted from CUET for this academic year. I thank @dpradhanbjp ji for his continuous support and understanding,” the Meghalaya CM said in a post on X.
