Meghalaya: Four of the six prisoners who had escaped from Jowai district jail on Saturday and were brutally assaulted by the public in West Jaintia Hills district on Sunday have now been confirmed dead.
The six undertrial prisoners, including those identified as I Love You Talang, Lodestar Tang, Shidorki Dkhar, and Rikmenlang Lamare, who had escaped from Jowai district jail were brutally assaulted by the public on Sunday.
However, a fifth undertrial prisoner identified as Ramesh Dkhar managed to flee the violent mob.
Meanwhile, Marsanki Tariang, the sixth Under trial prisoner had parted ways with the other five soon after escaping from jail.

The four were brutally assaulted by a mob in a forest area in Shangpung Thadmuthlong in West Jaintia Hills District at around 3 pm on Sunday where they had taken shelter after escaping from prison.
As per inputs, when locals got information about the presence of the undertrial prisoners and convicts in the forest area, they rushed to the spot with sticks in hand and caught hold of at least four of the escaped prisoners, and brutally thrashed them.
The victims were lying in a pool of blood when the police team finally arrived at the spot.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the four victims were taken to Lalong Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
