Manipur War on Drugs: 416 grams of Brown Sugar seized in C’CPUR, 1 held

Manipur’s War on Drug is on, a team of Churachandpur police arrested one drug peddler and seized 33 soap cases containing brown sugar

Churachandpur police arrested one drug peddler and seized 33 soap cases containing brown sugar at M Songgel Village, Churachandpur district on December 3. The arrested person has been identified as Semkhogin Misao (44) of Tuidam village.

Following reliable information that some drug peddlers were about to smuggle drugs in M Songgel area, a team of Churachandpur police led by OC Inspector N Thangzamuan and SI B Zairemthang including women personnel rushed to the village at around 4 pm and conducted a search.

At the residence of one lady identified as Mary (35), wife of L Thangminlal Khongsai of DC Veng, M Songgel Village, the police also found another man later identified as Semkhogin Misao.
Later, in presence of SDM Churachandpur and members of the village authority of M Songgel village, a search was conducted at the house.

During the search of the house, nothing incriminating was found. However, on searching loo located outside the house, one black bag containing some soap cases suspected to contain illicit drugs were found.

On inspection of the bag, 33 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar was found and seized.
The suspected brown sugar weighed about 416 grams. On preliminary interrogation, Semkhogin Misao revealed that he had procured the suspected brown sugar from one person from Myanmar at Rs 7000 per soap case and he had hid it inside the bathroom. Semkhogin Misao was arrested and a case registered under relevant sections of the ND & PS Act. Further investigation is on.
