Manipur Viral Video: Meitei’s in Mizoram gets security cover

In a late-night move on Friday, the Mizoram Government has deployed armed police personnel at various locations in the capital Aizawl to provide security to Meiteis who are in the city, engaged in various professions.
An internal Mizoram Police order signed by a (DIG) yesterday said the move has been taken in anticipation of possible tension which could threaten the security of Meiteis living in Aizawl due to the public outrage against the torture of the two women by a mob in Manipur’s Thoubal district, the video of which has since gone viral.
The locations where policemen from the Mizoram Armed Police and IR Battalions are deployed since last night include Mizoram University at Tanhril, Veterinary College at Salesih, RIPANS at Zemabawk and ZMC in Falkawn.
Tension grew after the Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA) issued a statement saying Meiteis in Mizoram must now take care of their safety, PAMRA stated while condemning the naked parade of 2 women by a group of men in Manipur, a crime that has shocked the whole nation.
Meiteis from Aizawl is already reported to have started fleeing Mizoram. The Manipur government is considering sending a chartered aircraft to Lengpui airport near Aizawl later today to evacuate the Meiteis from the state. Manipur govt officials are in touch with their Mizoram counterparts on the matter.
There are an estimated 2000 Meiteis from Manipur and Assam in Mizoram, including more than 30 faculty members at Mizoram University.
