Manipur: Six Cadres of Proscribed Outfit of Kangleipak Communist Party Arrested

The arrested KCP (PWG) rebels were involved in illegal arms transactions and extortion, recovered a sum of Rs 3.88 lakh.

Manipur Police have arrested six members as well as associates of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (People’s War Group).

The members of the proscribed group were arrested from Porompat in Imphal East district.

The Police said in a tweet that the arrested KCP (PWG) rebels were involved in illegal arms transactions and extortion from the general public, private firms as well as government offices.

Taking to X, Manipur Police stated, “On 22.10.2024, Imphal East District Police arrested 06 (six) members and associates of KCP (PWG) from Porompat, Imphal East, namely : a)Oinam Abung Meitei (31 years) b)Leimapokpam Hari Meitei (53 years) c)Yaikhom Lukhoi Singh @ Inao (32 years) d)Oinam Bijen Meitei (25 years) e)Athokpham (N) Irengbam (O) Inaobi Devi @ Nanao (38 years) and f)Moirangthem Ichan Devi (20 years) Further, the following items were recovered from their possession: 01 (one) four wheeler, 02 (two) two-wheelers, 06 (six) mobile phones, 01 (one) sling bag, 02 (two) wallet, 02 (two) ID cards and a sum of Rs. 3, 88, 950/- (three lakhs eighty-eight thousands nine hundred fifty rupees only). They were involved in illegal arms transactions, extortion from general public, private firms, govt. offices, etc.”

Those arrestees have been identified as Oinam Abung Meitei, L Hari Meitei, Yai-khom Lukhoi Singh, Oinam Bijen Meitei, Athok-pham N Ireng-bam and Moirang-them Ichan Devi.

The police recovered a sum of Rs 3.88 lakh from the possession of the 6 KCP (PWG) cadres.

Earlier on October 19, two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (People’s War Group) were arrested on charges of extortion.
The police in a statement had said that both the KCP (PWG) members were involved in extortion from the general public and other prejudicial activities.

Earlier this month, the Manipur Police had informed that the anti-extortion cell has been set up to counter the growing menace of extortion in the state. The anti-extortion cell is being headed by the additional director general of police (law and order). All zonal deputy inspectors-general of police are also members of the cell.
